Omo’Oba Jerry Adesewo (Producer/Artistic Director) is a writer, theatre producer/director, and cultural administrator. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of Arojah Royal Theatre, a private theatre outfit that operates in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja.
As a cultural journalist, he has written for NEXT Newspaper, Guardian Newspaper, Trust Newspaper, National Mirror, Newscalabash, Metropole Magazine, City Pages International Magazine, Korean Times, The Enlightener Magazine, and is currently a member of the Editorial Board of OurNigeriaNews Magazine and OurNigeriaTV24
He is currently the National Director of Media and Publicity, the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP); North Central Coordinator, ASSITEJ Nigerian Centre; Board Member/Nigerian Champion, International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN); Nigeria/West African Coordinator of the UK based INDRA Congress (now The INDRA Collectives); Member, Arterial Network Nigeria and International Association of Theatre Critics; Associate Member, Society of Nigerian Theatre Artistes (SONTA) and the International Theatre Institute (ITI Nigeria); Co-Founder/Anchor, Nigeria-Northern Ireland Cultural Exchange Platform; Founder/President, Arojah Arts Trust; 202-2025 Global Connectors’ Fellow, and Member, Advisory Council of the IETM (International Contemporary Performing Arts Network),
He is one of the foremost theatre producers in Nigeria, especially in the Abuja axis where he operates from, having made over fifty productions, some of which he also directed, in the last 15 years. He is the founder and festival director of the Korea-Nigeria Poetry Festival which first debuted in 2010; the Abuja Children Theatre Festival which was first held in 2015; the International Women Day Drama Series since 2011 and the Abuja International Theatre Festival and Awards which is currently being put together by Arojah Royal Theatre. For three consecutive years now and running, he was an Adjudicator for the Hadiza Ibrahim Aliyu Schools Festival (HIASFEST). He was also an Adjudicator for the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) in Jos, Plateau State in 2020 and the annual COCIN Evangelical Drama Festival among others. And he has served at various times as the Programmes Director and Technical Director of the ASSITEJ Nigeria Theatre Festival popularly known as ANT Festival.
Jerry has 3 published works to his credit both as editor and co-editor: Womb of Peace (an anthology of Japanese Haiku poems), We Are the One (an anthology of poems by young student writers), and From Here to There I & II (a cross-cultural anthology of poems). A new book, an anthology of winning plays of the Arojah Students Playwriting Prize, Justice: A Mirage and Other Plays, co-edited with Dr. Ola Ifatimehin is expected on the bookshelf shortly.
For his huge impact on cultural promotion,exemplary resourcefulness, creative enterprise, creation of artistic platforms and prizes for literary development and immeasurable commitment to the growth of art in Nigeria, Mr. Om’Oba would be honoured with a Golden Award for Art Administrators in Nigeria, in January, 2024, at HIASFEST.
